Did you know that many young people can be confused about their sexuality from an early age? There are times when you’re growing up and especially in your teenage years that you might feel confused about “who” you are. It’s perfectly normal to feel like this so don’t be worried.
You might fancy someone of the same sex but this does not mean that you are gay – its all part of developing sexual feelings and these feelings can change or stay the same.
Don’t feel pressurised into anything – let yourself develop and see what happens – if the feelings get stronger and stay pretty fixed over time then this may mean that you’re gay.
Some times people can be are attracted to both men and women which is called bisexual.
Whatever your feelings you need to know that you’re not on your own – it is ok to be gay, lesbian, bisexual or straight. It is important to know that you don’t choose a sexuality – it is just who you are as a person. What you do need sometimes is someone to talk to, access to information and support whilst exploring these feelings if you’re worried about them.
It can feel quite a lonely place to be when you think you are different to everyone else but learning to accept who you are and coming to terms with your feelings can be a start. Find someone who you know you can trust to talk to, or find further information on the internet.
Where can you get advice?
There are lots of ways to get advice – choices around talking with people, accessing support and finding out more about sexuality.
